There has recently been increased interest in acquiring electronic fingerprint transmission (EFT) files for Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATF) form 1 and form 4 submissions. The BATF, also referred to as the ATF, EFT files have several advantages, including:
The NFA imposes a $200 tax on the manufacture and transfer of these firearms and accessories, and all transactions must be approved by the ATF. The registration process can take several months, and applicants must submit fingerprints and a photograph with their application.
The NFA is legislation that intends to regulate certain types of firearms that are considered particularly dangerous. By imposing strict regulations on the manufacture and transfer of these firearms and accessories, the intention of the NFA is to keep them out of the hands of criminals. Whether it actually accomplishes this is a topic of debate.
When a person applies to purchase, manufacture, or transfer a firearm controlled by the NFA they must submit a fingerprint card or an electronic fingerprint transmission (EFT) file. At Alabama Fingerprint Solutions we provide our clients with either, at their preference. Submitting fingerprint cards costs less but takes longer. An EFT file costs more but results are returned faster.
